How to Be a Force for Life in a Culture of Suicide
Suicide is a serious problem in our society, and it's something that we need to talk about more openly. In 2020, there were over 45,000 suicide deaths in the United States. That's more than the number of people who died in car accidents.
Suicide is a complex issue, and there is no one-size-fits-all solution to preventing it. However, there are some things that we can all do to help create a culture of life, where people feel supported and connected, and where suicide is not seen as the only way out.
One of the most important things that we can do is to be there for the people in our lives who are struggling. If you know someone who is talking about suicide, or if you think they might be considering it, reach out to them. Let them know that you care about them, and that you're there for them if they need anything.

You don't have to be a mental health professional to help someone who is suicidal. Just being there for them and listening to them can make a big difference. You can also help them to connect with professional help if they need it.
Another important thing that we can do is to challenge the stigma surrounding suicide. Suicide is often seen as a shameful thing, and this can make it difficult for people to get the help they need. We need to start talking about suicide more openly, and we need to let people know that it's okay to ask for help.
We also need to work to create a culture where people feel supported and connected. This means creating communities where people feel like they belong, and where they have access to the resources they need to thrive.
Finally, we need to advocate for policies that support suicide prevention. This includes funding for mental health services, and for research into suicide prevention. We also need to work to reduce the stigma surrounding suicide, and to make it easier for people to get the help they need.
Suicide is a preventable death, and we all have a role to play in preventing it. By being there for the people in our lives who are struggling, by challenging the stigma surrounding suicide, and by working to create a culture of life, we can help to save lives.
